Here is today’s Sunday breakfast…
It’s a sin… sinfully delicious that is!
We decided to go for a drive to Calgary last weekend and just as we passed by City of Airdrie, it didn’t take long before we saw this outdoor store called Bass Pro Shops. It’s hard to miss as the store was humongous and you can see it for miles away. We were staying overnight in Calgary so we had plenty of time to take a detour and check out this place.
As we got out of the car and walked towards the store, it was then that we realized just how big the store was. The entrance itself was pretty impressive! If anything, it was an indication of more surprises inside. This is the only store of its kind in Western Canada and it just recently opened last April 7, 2009. The other stores are located in Toronto and Montreal.
Above the doors it says “Welcome fishermen, hunters, and other liars.” Huh.
Look at this beautiful and very large lantern that flanks the entrance! It has different scenes of wildlife and nature on every side.
Here is what you’ll see as soon as you enter. It seems like you just got into a cozy cabin before you get to the actual store.
Have I mentioned the store was huge? There were rows and rows of merchandise and a vast selection of quality gear for fishing, hunting, camping, boating and marine. You don’t have to purchase your ammo online to be adventurous when you have it all. There’s also a small number of boats, kayaks and other types of watercraft.
I must confess though that I was more enthralled with the various wildlife and outdoor scenes inside the store. They’re all over the store mixed in with the merchandise.
In case you get hungry, you can stop by the General Store and get something to eat or do a little bit of grocery shopping.
They even have something for you to offer an annoying guest during a dinner party!
Of course we couldn’t leave without getting something. We bought this pre-seasoned Lodge Logic cast iron skillet. It’s very affordable compared to most kitchen stores and you can use this one right away.
The place is amazing and is certainly worth a visit. It’s like enjoying the great outdoors while being indoors… and shopping!

A friend and colleague knew that we were looking for some ideas on what to do with our backyard. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with it but it’s just kinda “blah” since it’s basically just a nice lawn with two trees in each corner. She told me to visit Wellington Garden Centre located in the north side of Edmonton for some inspiration. We’ve been to a few in the Edmonton, Sherwood Park and St. Albert areas so we know there are some really nice ones with big trees from the Georgia Tree Company online. We have never been to this one before so might as well have a look!
The place wasn’t that easy to find as their sign wasn’t very visible. All my colleague told me was that “it’s by Cineplex Odeon.” We eventually found it with the help of Google maps.
Here’s a charming little cottage that greets you by the entrance. Just an indication of more beautiful things to look forward to.
And here’s how it looks like inside.
The meandering path on the side.
And here is the back side. Look at the lovely windowboxes!
Let’s go see the beautiful gardens, shall we?
And here are the plants, flowers and garden accessories for sale.
And here is one of the most exquisite gift shops I have ever been to in Edmonton. They carry a lot of beautiful French and French-inspired treasures!
These urns by the side of the gift shop are simply majestic. Unfortunately, they’re $3,500 each so I just admired them from afar while taking refuge in the shade of this beautiful arbor.
After a quick respite from the sun, sadly, we had to leave. We certainly enjoyed visiting this place and got a lot of ideas and inspiration for our backyard. I hope we can turn our backyard into an oasis like this someday.
We’ll be back! And that’s, for sure.

“Yes!”, said the milkman.
I woke up at 5:30 in the morning and guest what I saw out my window?. The milkman dropping off milk at my neighbour’s doorstep. The milkman?
I can’t believe the milkman still exist let alone delivering milk this early. The only thing is, they’re not in those classic milk bottles anymore.
I wonder if he delivers chocolate milk?
