Bass Pro Shops

We decided to go for a drive to Calgary last weekend and just as we passed by City of Airdrie, it didn’t take long before we saw this outdoor store called Bass Pro Shops. It’s hard to miss as the store was humongous and you can see it for miles away. We were staying overnight in Calgary so we had plenty of time to take a detour and check out this place.

As we got out of the car and walked towards the store, it was then that we realized just how big the store was. The entrance itself was pretty impressive! If anything, it was an indication of more surprises inside. This is the only store of its kind in Western Canada and it just recently opened last April 7, 2009. The other stores are located in Toronto and Montreal.

Above the doors it says “Welcome fishermen, hunters, and other liars.” Huh.

I want one of those antlers... just one!

Look at this beautiful and very large lantern that flanks the entrance! It has different scenes of wildlife and nature on every side.

The copper is starting to develop a beautiful patina.

Here is what you’ll see as soon as you enter. It seems like you just got into a cozy cabin before you get to the actual store.

BassProShops05

A cozy space.

I wonder if that fish also "sings"?

Sportsman's Paradise

Have I mentioned the store was huge? There were rows and rows of merchandise and a vast selection of quality gear for fishing, hunting, camping, boating and marine. You don’t have to purchase your ammo online to be adventurous when you have it all.  There’s also a small number of boats, kayaks and other types of watercraft.

A broad selection of outdoor apparel.

I was tempted to flip though the camping book.

I must confess though that I was more enthralled with the various wildlife and outdoor scenes inside the store. They’re all over the store mixed in with the merchandise.

Yes, that is a small plane hanging above us

BassProShops13

It's like a scene out of National Geographic.

BassProShops11

Now how do I get up that balcony?

BassProShops15

It was scary going up the stairs... really!

BassProShops19

Ready to take flight.

BassProShops20

"How may I help you?"

BassProShops22

"Gobble, gobble!"

In case you get hungry, you can stop by the General Store and get something to eat or do a little bit of grocery shopping.

BassProShops23

I love the baskets.

BassProShops24

They serve various sandwiches, soups and desserts.

They even have something for you to offer an annoying guest during a dinner party!

BassProShops25

I think he means you!

Of course we couldn’t leave without getting something. We bought this pre-seasoned Lodge Logic cast iron skillet. It’s very affordable compared to most kitchen stores and you can use this one right away.

BassProShops26

This was a really great purchase.

The place is amazing and is certainly worth a visit. It’s like enjoying the great outdoors while being indoors… and shopping!

Yes it was. I believe it was only $25 including tax. You should get one in Montreal when you come for a visit in November.

Wow, what an interesting store. I wonder how they clean and dust all that stuff! It’s great to be able to get a pre-seasoned cast iron pan. Great for cooking so many things, even pineapple upside down cake. Hope you share some of the things you cook on your blog. Looking forward to more pics!

Thanks Janice! I know hey. It’s certainly the most unique outdoor store I’ve ever been to. We want to try that one since it specifically uses a cast iron pan. Well, I’ll be posting it for sure when we make it.

Hey missy, I love this store. I love the outdoors and maybe someday I’ll get to try fly fishing. Now if only they carry the Chanel fly-fishing pole…
