Even though it was raining very hard in New York, we braved the torrential downpour just to get to Joe’s Shanghai Restaurant. They have three locations in New York and we decided to go to the one in Chinatown.
This place is popular for their soup dumplings or Xiao Long Bao, meaning “little dumplings from basket.” They are served in a bamboo steamer and each dumpling is filled with a small amount of pork meatball surrounded by a flavourful, meaty broth.
As soon as we were seated, we asked for an order of these dumplings as everyone in the restaurant seemed to be having them.
We also ordered some scallion pancakes and mushu pork. Both were also good but the dumplings were the real star.
The soup dumplings (and everything else) were certainly worth the trip as they hit the right spot.

Thanks Judy! It’s nice to be here but it’s been raining since we arrived. Kinda makes it hard to enjoy the outside and seeing the sights.
So are you bringing those back in the suitcase for lunch next week? NO..Damn it!
